WHERE WE WORK

MORE
Sustainable water

SWIFT is implementing activities ranging from drilling boreholes, improving pipelines and installing solar pumping systems to rehabilitating springs and constructing shallow wells, as well as strengthening water management committees and utility companies.

Sustainable sanitation

SWIFT is taking a range of approaches to sanitation, including implementing the ‘Healthy Villages and Schools’ approach in DRC, and in Kenya rolling out Community-Led Total Sanitation and installing ‘Fresh Life Toilets’ in the informal settlements of Nairobi.

Sustainable hygiene

SWIFT’s work to promote improved hygiene behaviour includes creating School Health Clubs and working with radio stations in Kenya to produce mass media public health broadcasts, and setting up Community Health Clubs in rural villages in DRC.

SWIFT Consortium Resources

From programme overviews to learning briefs and an environmental assessment tool, you can download a range of reports and documents being created as part of the SWIFT programme from our Resources section.

About SWIFT

Since 2014, the Sustainable WASH In Fragile Contexts (SWIFT) Consortium has been working to provide access to water and sanitation and to encourage the adoption of basic hygiene practices in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and in Kenya. Various partners implement SWIFT’s actions in both target countries, in collaboration with governments as well as water providers, including utilities. The consortium is led by Oxfam, and includes Tearfund and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) as global members. The SWIFT programme is funded by UK aid from the UK government under a Payment by Results (PbR) contract.
